1. HBeAg Test

HBeAg is an antigen produced by the virus during the replicating process.

If HBeAg is positive, this indicates active viral replication in the liver.

If HBeAg is negative, this may indicate 2 scenarios:

(1) A transition from HBeAg positive to HBeAg negative, anti-HBe positive, which is called HBeAg seroconversion. This indicates the virus is not replicating actively (inactive hepatitis B phase).

(2) The virus is still replicating actively but changed (mutated) itself so that it does not produce the e-antigen during the process. Serum HBV DNA level remains detectable. ALT may fluctuate. Active disease is still present (HBeAg-negative CHB).

More blood tests must be taken in order to have an accurate diagnosis.

Other Blood Tests :

>Liver Function Test (LFT) and Prothrombin Time (INR)

>HBV-DNA Quantification

>Alpha-Fetoprotein (AFP)

Other Tests :

>Ultrasound (U/S) / Computed Tomography (CT) / Magnetic Resonance Imagaing (MRI)

>Liver Biopsy
